Steve Artz has been blending creativity and craftsmanship for decades, carving out a reputation as one of the most imaginative and resourceful artists in State College, Pennsylvania. Born and raised in Schuylkill County, Pennsylvania, Steve’s passion for art took root at an early age and continued to flourish through his studies at the Pennsylvania State University, where he graduated with a degree in Art Education.

In 1975, Steve launched his first business in State College, marking the start of a dynamic career that would bridge the worlds of art, retail, and design. At one point, he owned/co-owned and operated eight different retail businesses simultaneously, where his talent for creating compelling visual experiences found a natural home. He became renowned for his innovative, one-of-a-kind window displays, earning numerous awards and accolades for his ability to turn storefronts into captivating works of art.

Steve’s creativity extended beyond retail, as he became sought after for his ability to design intricate themed events. From large-scale charity galas such as the Charity Ball benefiting the Mount Nittany Medical Center, to private celebrations, Steve’s custom-made sets brought visions to life, blending storytelling and artistry in unforgettable ways.

Although his successful retail career consumed much of his time, Steve never lost his passion for art. Around 2010, he began returning to his artistic roots, experimenting with small paper sculptures crafted from everyday materials such as manila folders, hanging folders, and masking tape. His resourceful approach reflects his belief that beauty can be found
in the simplest objects, whether it’s a painted piece of pasta, aluminum foil, or a q-tip, or some other overlooked household item.

After exiting the world of retail business, Steve fully embraced his art, channeling his energy into creating unique pieces that challenge the boundaries of traditional materials. His work is both playful and profound, inviting viewers to see the extraordinary in the ordinary. Today, Steve is celebrated not only as a seasoned entrepreneur and community visionary but also as an artist who transforms the mundane into the magnificent.
